Greetings from Pensacola, FL! I have an automatic 2012 toyota corolla S with 159k miles. Recently traveled out of town and 3hrs into the drive, the check engine light and the trac off light came on and deactivated the cruise control. Checked the tire pressures and all the fluid levels and they're all fine. Next day, the lights went out but on the drive back home, 3hrs into the drive, the lights came back. Took it to a shop and the code P2757 Torque Converter Clutch Pressure Control Solenoid Performance Shift Valve SLU. They said that they're going to have to take apart the transmission to diagnose the problem because a bunch of things could be wrong with it.
Any advice? It's the only vehicle that my wife and I have. At about 140k miles, I changed the transmission fluid and there is no noticeable issues. I do most maintenance work myself. Acceleration is fine, shifting is fine, nothing weird happening. They did say they noticed somewhat of a burning smell from the transmission fluid.
HELP!!!
If you let it go 140K miles before changing the transmission fluid and filter, you have problems. Supposed to be changed at 30-50K miles. You need a transmission specialist to diagnose the problem now.
I bought the car from my brother in law at 130k miles. By that time, I never knew that the trans fluid was never changed and the transmission had never been serviced. BUT Scotty did say to just change the fluid and it should be fine because the toyota transmissions are better built. At 170k I planned to bring it to a shop to actually drop the pan, change the filter and change the gasket because I don't feel like doing that.
Why the down vote @djhulksta? We deal with experience and reality here to try to help. Heed the advice of @chucktobias. By the way, the "you" was rhetorical, not personal.
That's my bad. Didn't realize I did that.

That's frequently the case but there are limits and you still have to be careful. Check the site FAQ entry on changing transmission fluid, paying particular attention to what it says about fluid condition. If you do change it save the old fluid in a clean container just in case there are problems. The longer you wait the more problematical it will be.
Yes, I made sure to save the old fluid just in case and the condition of the fluid wasn't that bad. Like I said, I don't feel like there is anything noticeably wrong with the transmission.
