Dear Scotty,

I been using used harrier 350g year 2009 (also known for rx350) ,recently its scheduled for ATF fluid change on 139k . After some advice from fellow harrier enthusiast, suggest me to do ATF fluid & filter change too. U know toyota use toyota brand ATF, my mechanic suggested me to shift using AMSoil ATF, would it be a good idea on the ATF shift change. Thank you 😁

Regards

I’d stick to the exact Toyota fluid that’s mentioned in your owner’s manual.

Your mechanic suggested that fluid probably because that’s all he has, in his shop.

You don’t wanna risk it, I’d play it extremely safe when it comes to ATF.

See here for further guidance on changing ATF -

Amsoil is sold via a "multi-level-marketing" framework. Are you comfortable with that? Usually, the mechanics who want to use this are themselves "multi-level-marketing." It's extremely expensive, and I'm not sold, at all, on the benefits.

Generally, it's not a good idea to use anything other than OEM fluids. The transmission was spec'd out with the OEM fluid. And Toyota transmissions (often AISINs) are among the best and most long lasting, if one uses OEM fluid, and drains and fills the tranny at reasonable intervals. Why mess with success?

I'd find another mechanic whose advice to you is not colored by their financial involvement with Amsoil. Personally, I find their proselytizing a bit creepy.
