Heater won't blow hot

2016 Toyota Corolla, 52k Miles, Automatic. My car is not blowing hot air if i turn on the heater. It only starts blowing hot air if it above 81 degrees ( Normally at 73 degrees it already gets hot). I took it to the Toyota dealership to get it checked, they did a diagnostic check which cost me $160 but didn't find anything wrong with my car according to them. I've been driving my car for so many years now and I know how every temperature of my heater feels like. I just felt the dealership was just really lazy to check it properly. How can I fix my heater problem? If not fixed will it cause any harm to my car in the long run? Your advice will be very appreciated. Thank you

How can I fix my heater problem?

try replacing the thermostat. Might as well replace coolant while you're at it. It is due.

Hopefully the pump hasn't failed already.

will it cause any harm to my car in the long run?

If the engine isn't overheating, no.

if my thermostat is on "H"

I meant engine thermostat, which doesn't have an "H". it sounds like you are describing the temperature gauge on your instrument panel.

The engine thermostat is a valve that controls coolant flow.

The thermostat I was pertaining to is my engine temperature gauge ( the person who i spoke with at the dealership also called it the thermostat😂)

don't even set foot into the dealership

I will go back and let them know about the thermostat for the coolant flow. Thank you again

If replacing the thermostat doesn't fix the problem the operation of the blend door would be the next thing to check, which most likely requires a pro-grade bidirectional scan tool. (The dealer should have done that but who knows what they actually did, if anything.)

starts blowing out hot air if I only set it to 81 degrees

OK you never said anything about setting a temperature. I thought you were talking about your engine temp reaching 81 °C. This is why is important to explain your question fully.

This is a problem with your climate control system. There are actuators that blend cold and hot air and sometimes they get out of whack. Mechanics hate these problems because often it required gutting out half of the car's interior and it takes a very long time. Customer probably decline the work 90% of the time because of the labor cost involved.

You might have luck just doing a reset/relearn procedure. Find a competent and trustworthy independent mechanic who has good diagnostic tools.

Sorry for the miscommunication. Yes that is what I meant. My car doesn't blow out hot air if I turn on my heater unless I set it above 81 degrees. This climate control system problem will it cause huge damage in my car in the long run I it is not fixed?

no damage

Thank you so much really gave me a peace of mind. Your contents are very helpful. More power to you and take care

Thank you for your reply. The dealer told me all the fluid levels are good including my coolant. I did tell them about the thermostat but again they said they didn't find anything wrong. Their advice to me was, if my thermostat is on "H" then bring it back to them. Its just really weird that my car heater only starts blowing out hot air if I only set it to 81 degrees and above (which i dont normally do because it gets really hot inside my car) I might as well just get it check somewhere else and maybe and hopefully they can fix it. Thank you so much for your help, I've been your subscriber in youtube for 6 years now. You really are a huge help to us especially for those who know nothing about cars including myself. You have a good day.
