Hello, Between BMW and Benz, what is the best model and year for making DIY upgrades?
I would say Benz for sure. BMW are notorious for having endless problems and Mercedes are a least better quality than that

Whats better to start with? A C-Class or E-Class?
I'm not looking to drag race, just a nice tune and some exterior upgrades

I've done more with an e46 than a w210 re:upgrade fixes. Generally, the older the model, the easier and more DIYable.
BMW's straight-six engines (1990-2003) would be my pick, but I guess it depends on how much HP you want and if it is "sport" or "comfort" that you seek...
