I'm old (that's not what's bothering me)
But me and my brother got into a discussion about how unscrupulous used car dealers used to "roll back" the mechanical odometers on cars.
We started wondering how easy it would be for unscrupulous used car dealers to "roll back" digital odometers?
When I started looking around on the internet I was disturbed to see that it isn't that hard.
There's things called "odometer correction tools" available on the internet that don't cost all that much that allows people to change digital odometers to any mileage they enter.
I watched some local news reports out of Arizona where they estimate that over 50% of used vehicles in the state have had their odometers "tampered with.
I watched you last video and my questions are:
Is the true mileage of a vehicle always stored in the vehicle's ECU,
and does it take a high-dollar scanner like you have to retrieve it?
Yes it is in fact true that the car's ECU does have the original miles saved in the ECU.
It is also true that the ECU scanners are expensive. But usually you will find some online which hookup to your phone via Bluetooth. They are significantly cheaper. You need to check however, whether the scanner you are looking shows you the original miles as well.
Have a good one!
