Hi Scotty, I have 2011 Toyota Corolla Automatic hatchback, I'm getting a whining or humming noise when accelerating but when takey foot off the winning goes away. I'm from Sydney Australia and the mechanics don't know what that noise is coming from from, from. Iv been trying to contact you for a while now but I wasn't able to . Please please I need your help. Thank you for everything you been posting to help us all.
@gary78
Does it also whine if you rev the engine while in park?
Thanks for your reply.
No only when in gear and only when accelerating
Watch Scotty’s video as @yaser pointed out - https://youtu.be/Wy5nqh3LSs4
You should be able tell quite easily if the noise originates from the transmission or elsewhere, using the method in Scotty’s video.
I’ve had a whining noise from a worn out water pump, on acceleration too, so check all the pulleys & bearings run by your drive belt. It may just be a bad water pump or alternator.
Do the video though, it’ll help you pinpoint the source of the noise easily..
Likely has to do with the transmission wearing after a while. What is the milage? Maybe try doing a transmission flush and see if the noise goes away if its not too far gone.
58000 only. I have done a full transmission service and noise still there
Be careful about the transmission flush. It is a 10 year old car and probably high mileage. I would not do the flush. Check the torque converter too.
I have serviced the auto transmission bit noise still there, some mechanics are saying it could be a wheel bearing when under load they call it
So your best bet is to pinpoint the noise source before throwing money away. Scotty has a video on that.
It's seems so simple but no mechanic is keen or interested to even find out, some of them are saying it's the diff in the gearbox.
And I'm not sure if Scotty's sound machine will be able to be placed on a gearbox.
But thanks to all your help and reply.
Whining on acceleration could be caused by a restricted transmission filter.
Already did a full transmission service including filter, noise still there
How do you guys get questions answered by Scotty?
