Hey scotty, I'm looking at getting a 2019 highlander. I've found a couple 2019 model with the 2.7L 4-Cylinder DOHC 16V Dual VVT-i engine. All with less than 12 000 miles. They're are asking between 24 and 29,000. I'm looking to keep this vehicle for awhile, if not forever. Are those small motors good in that big vehicle? Do you recommend it? Thanks in advance, love your channel and appreciate what you do
Yes the 4 cylinder is just fine. Toyota makes some of the bewt engines. Especially since it's not turbocharged or supercharged. As long as you don't tow, it might even last longer than the V6 since there are less moving parts
The problem with that is when manufacturers put a small engine in a large vehicle and then they turbocharge it or supercharge it to extract more power out of it. The engine becomes overtaxed. However, in this case, the 2.7 engine is naturally aspirated. Unless you are using for heavy duty use or are doing a lot of towing you should be fine.
The engine should be fine and also please pair with a 6 speed auto not the 8 speed for reliability reasons.
