Highway mileage

Are highway miles bad for your engine because they keep running and not rest?

This question has been answered a hundred times already.  Please see FAQ.

Is this a serious question? It doesn't make much sense. Surely you must realize that with the exception of newer vehicles with auto stop-start systems your engine is running all the time whether you're in city traffic or on the highway. Even on most of those newer vehicles it's possible to turn off the auto stop-start in order to reduce engine wear.

As scotty will tell you, highway miles are equivalent to 10% of city driving miles.

No. If you have a vehicle that is mostly driven on the highway- it would be good for the battery and alternator for charging purposes. Highway miles also puts less wear on the transmission.

No - it's a car not a horse, it does not need "rest".

Having stable low-mid RPM, Driving in one gear, with low stresses on the suspension and steering is the optimal.

When on the highway or interstate with heavier traffic, is that not equivalent to street driving?
