I just received an email from Honda, stating that as part of their "all electric future" they will be releasing an all electric SUV in 2024. Do you know anything about their plans? I'd heard that they were committed to hydrogen. Sandy Munroe reported that Honda has the world's best hydrogen fuel cell engine and that he is aware of a small company that has developed a way to refuel fuel cells from a solid that can easily be transported in the vehicle.

Seems like everyone is going electric, except me. But then again, I don't have a smart phone, never collected turquoise or went to a disco.
Same here. No way can this forced transition be completed in my lifetime. No electric cars for me. Also it will be interesting to see if there's a backlash once electric cars are in the hands of the general public for several years and all the drawbacks become apparent.
nah it'll be just like with smartphones. Any issues that come up will be met with brush-offs, like "you're holding it wrong". Except in this case it will be "you're driving it wrong".
Hey Chuck, I have to agree with MMJoe on this one. People will just blow it off as normal, like they do now with accepting crime, the perpetual pandemic and childhood indoctrination.
Time will tell. Up to now the primary market for electric cars has been gadget freaks, "green" virtue signalers, and wealthy buyers who just want the newest thing; all of whom are willing to ignore the many drawbacks and limitations on an almost religious basis. Aside from the obvious functional restrictions, the typical car buyer may not be be so forgiving when it hits them in the wallet for higher purchase price, failing batteries after several years, and plummeting resale value at trade-in time.
It's a religion as you say, and people are willing to make great sacrifices for their gadgets, and self image. I worked at a top level nation wide telecommunications company, and every day people streamed in with tears in their eyes because they were cut off, telling their sob stories of how they couldn't afford to pay their smartphone bills, offspring in tow in tattered clothes... but they always had to have the LATEST smartphone in their purses/pockets (it was usually women). The phones typically retail over $1,000 but the company would subsidize it to them of course on a perpetual payment plan as long as they signed long term contracts that they couldn't afford. It's the same thing with cars I'm sure.

That would be the "Prologue". It's a partnership with GM. Nobody has seen one yet.

I'd heard that they were committed to hydrogen.
Maybe you were thinking of Toyota. They are heavily into it. In fact the "Mirai" is already for sale.
But it would probably be smart for all car companies to explore it. Nobody knows what the future will bring, so it's best to be prepared for anything that comes. Everyone claims that their technology is the best.
I will believe it when I see it. I say let the dust settle and see where the chips fall. Don’t jump on the bandwagon.
you don't wanna be on the bandwagon when it flips over and catches fire, trapping you inside
I doubt any manufacturer is going to share their trade secrets to anyone.
I'm sure we will see different manufacturers commit to different technology. I'm interested to see what the options are myself and I would like to see Hydrogen considered more.
Electric just doesn't strike me as a long term answer. I don't like dealing with batteries as it is, much less having them in my car. But I don't subscribe to any of the conspiracy theories many here do. I believe change is inevitable and it is just a matter of what the best option is going forward. Right now, none of us know what will be the end result.
If this news article is accurate, apparently that is Honda's long term goal:
I also found a number of additional articles stating the same.
I am still a little skeptical about Honda's partnership with GM for EVs considering the number of problems that GM has with their EVs, but only time will tell how they are when their "Prologue" SUV comes out.
Personally, for EVs, I am routing for Nissan (based on the new Ariya and their recent EV plans on solid-state battery development, etc.) or maybe the german brands like the VW group (VW, Porsche, Audi), or Toyota and Subaru with the BZ4x (I think that's what its called) and the Solterra.
I am not too sure about Hydrogen Cars but I know cars like the Toyota Mirai and the Hyundai Nexo exist in North America but I would never buy a Korean car so for Hydrogen cars I would go Toyota (Toyota did also release a GR Yaris hydrogen concept which seems rather interesting):

oh, you're a cartographer.
It seems Honda’s modus operandi is to go with a partner, learn, asses, and then make things better.
That’s what they did it when getting into SUV’s with the original Passport and the first Acura SUV. They were rebadged Isuzu.
For EV, they are partnering with GM for its first few mass production EV, then hopefully go it alone after.
I used to learn asses
🤪
