Honda Odyssey VCM issues

I have a friend who has Honda Odyssey 2014 with 100K miles on it. Today he had an issue where the van was loosing power after certain high speed. When he took the van to dealer, they said that some cylinder pistons and rings need to be changed. Upon investigation of internet he found that the problem has been there for a long time in Honda engines which has VCM feature. Basically over time it makes certain cylinders go bad. An alternative to VCM is to use after market device called as VCM muzzler which disables the VCM feature. My question is

1) Does VCM really make certain cylinder pistons go bad?

2) Is it a good idea to use VCM muzzler?

3) If Honda is aware of the problem why they have not solved it yet or is it no used in newer models?

Unfamiliar with the topic, maybe this will help you out.

On the note why honda hasn't done anything I believe that it could be multiple issues, first off this tech is suppose to be "fuel saving" therefore greener. Secondly could be that there isn't enough K/D on the cars, (Kill/death) ratios lol. Whether it is completely engine failures or something else. Third, corporations be corporate. And bureaucracy be bureaucracy. Taking forever moving up the chain or just currently stuck in limbo as many auto problems are. either they haven't gotten sued enough or they really just don't care.
