Hi Scott, I have a 2005 Honda Pilot with 40k original miles. I rarely use my car that's why my mileage so low. My question is: should I have my timing belt replace? even though it has only 40k but it has been 16 years since I bought it. Does belts go bad by itself?

Yes belt itself does go bad. They become brittle and crack over time. 16 years is a pretty good time if every year was 10k miles you have 160k. You can probably wait on it a little longer as timing for Toyota Honda can go forever but for preventive maintenance sake if you are paranoid you can give it a change. You can probably see what's up from your serpentine belt. If you look at that and it's all cracked and all that. Even small cracks means it's going out, you can use that to gauge whether or not you need a new timing belt.
