How about lease cars?

You always talk about best cars for longevity. Believe or not, there are millions of car enthusiasts that don’t want to fiddle with driving the same care for ever. Due to age and financial security we want to drive a new car every 3 years. I know this notion flys in the face of your shows core rationale. But a change of pace, with leasing in mind, would be welcome change.

Then apparently you haven't seen too many videos. Scotty recommends you lease a vehicle instead of buying a "piece of junk". If you got the money to do so, go for it. Take it out of your system and get a new one when you get bored or want to try a new toy.

That's a personal choice. There are also millions of us who are looking to minimize costs, and in many instances are unwilling to go into debt and don't want car payments. (I personally drive a car that I paid $1500 for 11 years ago and choose not to get onto the dealer/loan-or-lease/payment treadmill.) Of course it's good that some people are willing to do that or there would be no used cars for cheapskates such as myself to buy!

Scotty does tend to favor reliability and lower operating cost over sizzle and flash, but he does sometimes feature luxury vehicles in his videos.

Scotty is known for making suggestions to avoid “money pits”, aka spending the least amount possible, with the least amount of downtown, throughout time.

At the same time, if you want a potential luxury or new car “money pit”, he does suggest leasing.

For some people, leasing makes sense. For others it makes more sense to buy and keep forever. To each their own, and that is where there are options.

Fair enough.  But if you just want to lease a new car every few years, not sure why you'd bother following Scotty Kilmer in the first place.  It would be like watching Doug DeMuro and waiting for him to tell you how to fix a trouble code or diagnose a bad wheel bearing.

The reason Scotty does what he does is to help people repair and maintain their own cars to save money and make their cars last longer.  But when you lease, repairs are usually done under warranty and you get a new one before anything serious goes wrong.

If it's a change of pace you're looking for, there are plenty of alternatives out there.

Good point. So why do I watch Scotty? I was not always elderly and unable to service and maintain my own cars. At this point in my life I just want a nice dependable car I don’t have to personally fuss over, aka leasing. But I enjoy keeping up with all things automotive, via Scotty, because I like to….

If you can afford it, leasing is a simple way out of formal car ownership.  No responsibility, and very few issues.  Leasing is basically renting in my mind.

If Mr. Scotty switched over to leasing however, he wouldn't have much a show. 😊

I'm sure a lot of people who lease do zero maintenance, and probably don't even change the oil.  You're getting a new car every three years so why bother?

This video goes into some red flags and issues around leasing. (Disclaimer: These guys are informative about the car industry and the way dealers operate - the elder is a former car dealer with decades of experience. However they're also selling their own services - caveat emptor!)

That is your choice, some cars can be fine to lease, and enjoy a new car every few years.

Audi for instance, at least used to be a good car up until around 50-60k miles, and then they fall apart. If that is the same now, you could lease it, zip around in comfort, and ditch the thing before it starts breaking. Not sure if Audi is still like that or not.

Some cars though, are more trouble than they are worth, even if you lease it. For instance, a land rover can be brand new and you get to spend most of the time taking it to the mechanic getting it fixed. If you plan to lease, might not be a bad idea to check these forums and ask if what you are looking at will likely be okay until you ditch it, or just be a pain.

leasing in mind

Leasing a Dodge Charger, base model, starts at about $2,000 at signing and $500 for 3 years term -

so you'll be paying $20,000 to use a car for 3 years and will be left with NOTHING at the end.

Leasing is for people who don't have money but wanna appear as if they do.

Unless you get a deal, you're burning money.

Due to age and financial security we want to drive a new car every 3 years

When I get tired of my car, I just sell and go out and buy one (last time I've got 2) cash.

No need to fund someone else's profits.

notion flys in the face of your shows

No need to spread misconceptions, It doesn't.

you're welcome to see "Member Rides", most of us don't drive 20 year old Matrixes.

I had "cool" cars, I still have my last one in my profile picture, but ehh it gets old fast.

SMG, Crap 5 speed, some DCT - how's that better than solid auto? unless you're 16.

T-GDi 230hp, T5 250hp, Hybrid 300hp - who cares? watcha trynna do?

And trust me, Scotty, I, many more are happy that people want to buy garbage.

I enjoyed charging thousands for dual clutch assemblies on your slush box,

I loved charing ±$2,000 to glue back plastic magnet holders to plastic shift forks in Evos.

People who want to drive garbage to appear cool make for a large chuck of mechanics profits.

If you wanna drive crap cars, Pay for someone else's car, AND Fund us - Go for it!

would be welcome change

nah for childish excitement over screens and lack of understanding of mechanics -

There are plenty enough of YouTubers doing that crap.

You're welcome to go watch them.
