How much more gas will a 6 cylinder engine take than a 4? looking at an 09 accord 6 cylinder?
Struggling in the used car market to find something affordable and safe in my budget. found a 09 accord which has a 6 cylinder and I'm concerned that it's going to be too costly in terms of gas, I'm just one person and really used to driving only small cars with 4 cyl. even an estimate will be helpful. thank you!
Why not compare EPA mileage estimates for 6 cylinder versus 4 cylinder versions of the car? Real-world experiences will vary of course but that should give you a rough idea.
Also bear in mind that service and repairs can be more expensive on the V6. Replacing spark plugs is an expensive hassle, valve adjustments are more expensive, and the V6 has a timing belt requiring replacement about every 100K miles. You probably wouldn't want the belt to be more than 10 years old either since engine destruction is the consequence of belt failure. Then there's the emission system which may have more catalytic converters and O2 sensors than the 4-cylinder model.

If you do get the Honda V6, factor in the price of changing the timing belt. It is a maintenance item that comes with age/mileage.
A four cylinder Honda has a timing chain, so you don’t need to worry about that as much.
