How can I drain like a quart or two of trans fluid without dropping the pan or unhooking the trans line.

is there a pump or something I can buy at the local store that is long enough to even work on a gmc van?

Don't.

Drop the pan, clean all the sludge out of it, and replace the filter. Your transmission will thank you.

I know the exhaust is a pain in the rear, but with a big enough crowbar you can nudge it out of the way just enough to get the pan out.

I paid $140 for the service which is well worth it in my opinion.

I don’t know whether or not one should use this method or not.

But there are pumps and tubing you can buy to siphon from the fill hole. Some are electric, some are hand pump. Obviously the electric is more expensive.

I saw two different type of hand pumps at Harbor Freight the other day. It’s in the car section.

Or it could be done the good old fashion way by sticking one end of the tubing in the fill hole, and sucking the air out of it the other end (keeping the other end lower than the fill hole), until the fluid starts moving. I don’t recommend this option, but it is an option.

Mountain Man is right. That’s probably the best way to do it.
