How complex are hydrogen cars to ICE cars? One of the reasons I love electric cars is how few components there are, but hate lithium ion batteries. Do hydrogen cars have way less parts than an ICE car?
(i miss my 1962 ranchero with an inline 6. now THERES an easy ICE car!)
The way I understand hydrogen fuel cell cars is that they are basically electric vehicles with an onboard electricity generator that runs on hydrogen.
Instead of storing electricity in batteries, it generates electricity from hydrogen.
So yes, less parts than ICE. But more parts than a Battery EV. Not as complex as ICE, but not as simple as Battery EV.
BTW, take a look at the Honda CR-V hybrid. That is basically an electric car, IMHO. It just uses gas to generate the electricity. Like how a hydrogen fuel cell uses hydrogen to generate electricity.
It’s not a perfectly electric, but very fascinating in terms of how Honda decided to build a hybrid.
