Hi Scotti
Recently I replaced the brake pads on my wife's 2011 Santa Fe with 120 thousand miles. The dealer suggested it after a 10 point inspection for a mere $1800 so I did them myself. The front brakes pads were worn evenly but the rear pads were worn unevenly and were close to breaking through at one end. The fronts could have lasted another 10 thousand miles. Is there such a thing as rotating brake pads from the inside to the outside of the rotor periodically? What would cause the rear pads to wear only at one end. I did notice the front calipers have two pistons per caliper while the rear have only one per caliper. The emergency brake is a separate drum type brake operated by a cable.
And whatever you do please don't tell my wife. {black}
Caliper could be sticking a bit on one side causing uneven pad wear over time. Sliding surfaces on the calipers should be lubricated periodically (usually when replacing pads). There is a special caliper grease made for this purpose.
Clean and grease sliding surfaces and glide bolts. Replace the glide bolts if they are rusty. Also replace the glide bolt rubber boots if they are worn. And don't buy the cheapest glides/rubbers.
It's good to use a silicone grease on the glide bolts, and some anti seize on the slide surfaces.
