Hello scotty! Fan from YouTube and subscriber here. I live in indonesia and thanks to your educational videos i have saved a lot of money and time fixing my own car myself. My current car is toyota corolla 1.8 1996 model
I want to ask your advice on how to check properly a toyota camry 2005 model as i am looking forward to buy it, which is a automatic and 2400cc. If i am not wrong the only difference is back lights for asian model the rest is same. Please tell me about what should i be worry about, as it is for my wife. Thanks a lot for all your interesting and educating videos. Love you man!

Mileage?
Check for water damage

Thank you so much yes definitely that was not in my mind. What else yeah?
Assuming you’re in Jakarta, I can only see a handful of 2005 Camry vehicles for sale.
Almost all of them are relatively high mileage. So you want to check -
1. Genuine mileage
2. Flooded or not
3. Accidental damage
Again assuming you speak Bahasa, here are some pointers, but I strongly recommend you have it inspected by a professional mechanic -
As usual, I’m not affiliated to any of the above videos.
Also, I’m sure you’re aware, but keep aside a few million rupiahs for post purchase maintenance, to bring the car back to daily driver standards. If your wife can drive a manual, get the manual version.
All the best!
Thank you so much for this detailed explanation.
Yes i will definitely do that all. There is just one concern i have as the in indonesia camry with 2.4 engine are 2AZ-FE I4. Does 2005 model year have issues with oil burning like the 2004 model or is it fixed in 2005?
I’m not sure for the Indonesian market, however, regardless of the engine being notorious for oil burning, have a professional mechanic check out all the spark plugs as that should give you a clue if the engine is consuming oil. If the seller can provide detailed maintenance records on the oil change history and routine maintenance, provided a mechanic says it’s in excellent condition for it’s age, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one of these. Just don’t overpay in this bloated used car market.
Thank you so much once again. In indonesian market most luxury sedans like camry or accord are imported mostly from Australia. And also how about a honda accord 2005. I just want to have another option if i cannot find a well worth toyota camry. Thanks
As far I’m aware, the Indonesian Camry and Accord are imported as CBUs from Thailand. The Camry was CKD until 2004, but from 2005 until present, it’s been imported as a CBU from Thailand. I’m not sure about the exact dates for the Accord. But, if you’re considering it too, it got the very reliable K24. If possible, stick to the 5 speed manual tranny as you never know if the previous owners took care of the automatic transmission maintenance. Still, if you find a really good example, have it checked out to see what shape the car is in. As always, beware of odometer tampering and flood/wreck damage.
