I have a 2011 Toyota Rav4 with the 3.5 v6 in it and it misfires with the check engine light on and it gives the code P0301 so far Ive put spark plugs and wires in it changed the coil pack and put a new catalytic converter on it but it still misfires and I still have the P0301 code. I bought the toyota new but it does have 253k miles on it but I havent had to do transmission work to it or major engine repair to it believe it or not.
I liked it so well I bought a 2021 even though it only has a 2.5L 4cyl. Anyway anyone have any other ideas on what could be going wrong with the 2011 rav?
Prince a bad fuel injector you could swap the number one fuel injector would say the number four and see if the miss moves and you know it's that. You can also do a compression test of the engine to see if the number one cylinder is just worn out
Sounds like you have compression loss in Cylinder #1. That could be a loose plug, or failure of:
- the head gasket
- piston rings
- valve seats
I have a buddy that helped me pull the engine on it and the compression ring in cyl 1 broke on it. Should I go ahead and have the engine rebuilt with rings and bearings? If so should I have the heads redone on it too?
The rav has 253k miles on it but my buddy is a mechanic and he said the cylinder walls are still really good and nothing wrong with the crankshaft ether, hes fast he got the engine out and tore apart in one day I owe all the beer he wants for now lol.
Look into it. Your Rav4 is 11 years old with high mileage ... not worth much any more. I don't know the condition or value of it.
Normally I would say "probably not" because it's cheaper to get a replacement engine. But if your friend is going to help you out then that *might* work in your favour. Just make sure he really knows what he's doing, and he's not just a shadetree or 1st year apprentice. Yes, if you're tearing the engine apart it would be silly not to rebuild the heads too.
If you really want to keep the car, get a reman engine from Powertrain Products with the 5 year warranty. If your buddy is that good, he should have the job done in a few hours and a six pack.
You could try to spray some starting fluid in the intake plenum to test to the injectors and can also clean your cylinders. My guess is all the ethanol did this.
I appreciate the help I tried the fuel injector swap but the rav continued the misfire. I have a compression tester and i got 240 and 250 psi on 5 cylinders and a 120psi reading on cyl 1 so its holding compression but half of what the other cylinders read. I checked the oil and theres no coolant on the dipstick and the coolant isnt overflowing.
