Replace catalytic converter on 2008 Ford Fusion?

0
Topic starter

2008 Ford Fusion SE 4-cylinder.

In your opinion should I spend the cash on replacement of the catalytic converter or run the car until it can't safely go anymore???

If you do think it's good enough of a vehicle to replace the catalytic converter, and if you think it's worth it to continue to replace how much should the max price be?   I live in Denver, Colorado.

Or is it not worth it?

Also the car last I checked I believe back in April 2021 the toltal cars value was only $2300.  In Excellent condition.  All in mind is it good to replace and how much should the max price be or not worth it to do such?

Clarification: What is the current mileage, and how many more years and miles do you need it to last you?

It has currently just over 130k and I'm hope to make it last at least until mid 2023?

I had replaced both o2 sensors two times already so the above paragraph dosnt answer my questions

The quality of our answers depends on the quality of the information you provide in your original question. Make sure you include all previous troubleshooting steps.

the heater works fine so I qm not sure what your paragraph was for

The trouble code has nothing to do with your heater

if it's not my cat what is it?

it could be a wiring fault, corroded connections, faulty computer, blown fuses etc etc.

Proper troubleshooting and diagnosis needs to be performed before replacing parts. Otherwise you end up spending money unnecessarily and fixing nothing.

It's saying code p0054/ Ho2 heater resistance bank 1 sensor 2

That's not an indicator that the catalytic converter is bad, it's telling you that the downstream O2 sensor heater or heater circuit is faulty.  The cause of the problem would have to be diagnosed but it's certainly not out of the question that an O2 sensor would go bad in 14 years and 130,000 miles. Your issues with gas mileage and power may or may not be related, live data analysis would likely tell the tale. Find a good local mechanic to check it out, not a stealership and not a chain shop like Firestone or Pep Boys.

Well as side I went to three Car maintenance places and also I had replaced both o2 sensors two times already so the above paragraph dosnt answer my questions, your paragraph basically advised me to get it checked witch I've done three diffrent places so I don't know what else to do and the heater works fine so I qm not sure what your paragraph was for becuase it don't say anything I've not tryied, and if it's not my cat what is it?

If you read potential causes and solutions in the links for that code that have been provided you will see that there are potential issues that can generate that code which are not necessarily the O2 sensor itself. None of the potential causes listed are for the catalytic converter.

Did the 3 car maintenance places detail exactly what they did and what diagnostic tests were performed? Did they test the O2 sensor heater circuit and wiring? Did they do a back pressure test on the catalytic converter? Did they capture and analyze live data? We don't know what they did, in fact you did not even mention in your original post that you took it to those shops. We don't have physical access to your vehicle so all we can go by is the information you provide.

Ok you guys are right, it's the o2 sensors they turned out to be correct ones my car requires OE and Ford motor craft brand o2 sensors so the computer can read it correctly just very very precise vehicle computer .

Thks sorry for the missunderstandings just this ford's costly on my pockets compaired to my 97 avalon Xel witch was so nice on all Maintenance compaired to this cars parts age faster then anything I've ever had and makes me very unhappy with the purchase given my toyota avalone was so great within parts quality , and reliability compaired to this 08 Ford fusion se 2.3L 4cylinder

No worries, some cars are like that, real finicky and they demand OEM sensors. I found that out the hard way on my own car when I used an aftermarket O2 sensor to save a few bucks and it sent me on a merry chase throwing all kinds of crazy codes. Installing the proper OEM sensor (Bosch in my case) cleared up all the problems like magic. Lesson learned.

The Fusion is not too bad as Fords go but as you've discovered it's no Toyota.

Without more information this is hard to answer.  How is the vehicle running? What condition is the vehicle overall? Do you need vehicle inspections in your area?

Getting more and more poor within gas mileage is getting extremely poor, and the gas has been taken more and more put down to move
