Ignition Coils / Pricing

Hi Scotty.

Thanks for all your help on YouTube.  I'm replacing all ignition coils on my vehicles.  One is a 2001 Trooper V-6 3.5L auto transmission rear wheel drive, 94,000 miles, good shape, no real problems.  On RockAuto I notice a wide range of pricing with the ignition coils.  Can I go with the cheap ignition coils like $7 each or do I have to go with expensive like $36 each?  Thank you!

go for the higher price ones they aren't that high and the cheap ones are generally Chinese knockoffs that don't even work

WOw. Will do. Thank you!

As Scotty said, stick to the good quality coils. Buy the OEM brand or another reputed brand. The unbranded ones will often be Chinese & are junk, even if they do work, they’ll usually fail again after 2-3 months and then you’re back at square one.

Been there, done that.

Also check Ebay. I buy OEM and reputable manufacturers there all the time as NOS at a severe discount.

Also Summit Racing has some good prices on Ebay and Amazon. They generally do not sell junk as it would hurt their reputation.

STAY AWAY FROM BWD at advance autoparts. Save your money. Save yourselves. Run like hell. Their parts are poop in a box. I have seen many of their electrical parts bad out of the box or shortly fail.

NAPA is a great place to get sensors and electronic modules because their brand Echlin is mostly high quality OEM parts with a few really good substitutes and the prices are on par with Autozone/Advance/OReiley

@autoelectrical
thank you.
