So I am about to install Inner and outer tie rods on my 2008 GX470 with 170k miles. I know the basic way to change them, but I have never done them before, and curious if I should use some anti seize on the inner tie rod threads where the outer screws into it? I have heard some alignment shops prefer that, as they need to adjust it.
Also, I have seen some people use a loctite removable version for the inner tie rod threads that screw into the steering rack.
I appreciate your expertise!
Don't put anything on. Just tighten it down, drive it straight to the alignment shop and let them do the rest
@mmj Sounds like a plan, thanks!
Yeah it's a good idea to use the lactate on the inner tie rods but you know you really don't need to lubricate the outer ones unless you live in Michigan or someplace where they use a lot of salt on the road in the winter that makes it easier for them to adjust. And realize you're going to have to pay a mechanic to align your front end you can't do it yourself
Thanks Scotty!
Yeah I don't live up north, but I may be up there a bit in the nasty weather.
I didn't even know you could buy lactate. Does it come in different flavors?
@doc 😆 I think that was loctite, the removable version at least.
I know that, I was joking around. Get it???
@doc Oh I knew, that is why I laughed, just added the info in case others reference it.
can I use formula as a substitute? 😆
