Intermittent spongy brakes

I've got a tough one for you all, I'm having intermittent spongy brakes on my 2011 Ford explorer 2wd. This would make me think about the break cylinder going out but the catch is that the brakes go back to normal whenever I have a full tank of gas. Has anyone heard of this and know what the cause could be? Thank you so much!

You have a vacuum leak. Probably in the EVAP system.

Excellent! Thank you. I needed some direction on this one.

The EVAP system, like the power brake system, relies on engine vacuum to operate correctly.  As @mmj pointed out, a vacuum leak in the EVAP system is a good possibility as well as the large vacuum hose running from the brake booster to the intake manifold, that may have cracks in it or become loose.
