Is $2,000 too much for a 96 Grand Cherokee 200,000 miles?

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo four wheel drive V8. 200,000 miles.Mechanic owned he replaced the fuel pump, radiator, serpentine belt, starter, battery and radiator hoses. Also tires and struts are fairly new. Seems to run great. That all said with a lot of parts replaced on a 25 year old Jeep is it worth getting for $2,000 to have as a second hand non daily driver? Second question is aren’t these the better made Chrysler vehicles? I still see a lot of these old Grand Cherokees still on the road and I know people who had them as well.

Sounds like an okay deal for a 25 year old vehicle. Make sure the mechanic inspects the vehicle and hooks his scan tool up for codes before purchase.

$2000 doesn't buy much at the moment, it might be OK as an occasional-use vehicle. Pay careful attention to the transmission. These use a weak Chrysler-built 4-speed automatic that is prone to problems. Overall quality of those old beasts is not exactly top-notch but they are better built than current Jeep products.

(That's a first-gen Grand Cherokee and was a design acquired from AMC when Chrysler bought them out.)

Sounds very reasonable considering the prices of cars now days but the older Grand Cherokees have been known to be reliable or basically any before fiat. The newer GC are getting better but still not as reliable as they used to be pre fiat.
