I just bought a 2015 KIA OPTIMA EX (150,000 miles, automatic, 2.4L GDI). Do you think that was a wise choice? What do you think about this particular car itself? (Reliability)
- No
- Scotty says Kia's and Hyundais last about 100k miles and after that they start falling apart. I have to agree on that from personal experience. My dad had a 2008 Hyundai Tucson and we got 170,000km (a bit over 100k miles) and after that it started burning and sweating oil. Also the AC system had a leak since probably 70,000miles so we had to refill it with refrigerant every month or 2. We brought it new and used it for 10 years and 190k km so it was still an amazing deal.
- Yours is on its last legs unless it was all highway miles. If you paid $500-1000 and it runs and drives it's not that bad.

I have an aunt that has a black 2015 Kia Optima LX (base) last time I saw it, it had beyond 120k and she said she’s never had a problem with it but she takes it in every year to get its software updated? Idk about that but she hasn’t had it break down or have to put out of pocket for anything or any dealer repairs. I also have a friend with a 2011 Kia Sorento she has now 192k and little to no maintenance other than the fact the left back door won’t open from the outside because of a broke door handle (those models were known for such stupid issues)
Few get lucky or thise miles are from driving on the highway. Im telling form the my personal experience and the general reliability of the brand. I've seen a bunch of 2004-2014 mercedes with 200k miles that still run and drive but that doesn't mean all will run that long. But yeah, like your aunt's, few can last quiet long, especially if it wasn't driven hard
My friend had one of those, engine blew up. Luckily it was still under warranty but just barely.
