Hello Scotty and team.
My lease is almost up on my 2018 outback 3.6r. And now subaru decided to put their 2.4 turbo in the new models. I not a fan of turbos because of watching your videos so I want buy out my 2018 with the 6cyl. Is the catch can needed in that 6cyl engine? If so can you recommend a brand/model. I wouldn't know what I what I'm looking at. Or should I have it professionally installed at the dealer? My outback has about 24k miles on it mainly due to lack of commute to work in the past year. I not having any problems with it right now. But I read about catch can and how it can save headaches in the long run and my vehicle needs it. By the way I think the CVT or the current ones are made by subaru from what I heard not Jatco. I still like the wagon style outback than any SUV. Thank you for your time Scotty. I really enjoy your videos especially when refer to your younger days and your grandfather about how things use to get done and such.
Actually those six-cylinder boxer engines turn into such deep money pits as they age you may well be better off with the turbocharged 4-cylinder. Yes, the turbo adds more complexity but that the 2.4 is not a ridiculously tiny engine and turbocharging is a mature technology that Subaru has used for decades in various models. With proper attention to maintenance a turbocharged engine can last a very long time.
The CVTs are the weakest point in Subarus. They are not nearly as bad as the miserable Jatco CVTs in Nissan vehicles, but not as good as Toyota's or Honda's.
