All of the cars that have been built over the past couple of decades, is fuel-injection making cars better? Could we even have carburetors today with modern technology? Would it even work?
From my own experience I have found fuel injection to require far less maintenance than carbs though of course the latter can be easier to repair if something does go wrong.
In any event, carbs cannot deliver precise enough fuel delivery for modern emission control and engine management systems. The final attempts were with electronic feedback carbs that could adjust mixture to a limited extent on the fly. (If you've ever dealt with the emission systems on those late carbureted vehicles you'd appreciate fuel injection even more.)
I love fuel injection!
I love not having to overhaul and tune a carb every year. I love not having a choke. I love being able to start my V8 on first crank on a -20 degree morning. I love not flooding the engine. I love the good fuel economy.
Fuel injection is excellent.
Have you ever had to set points on a carb? *Disclaimer: Do NOT Try This At Home*
One time I couldn't figure out what was wrong with a particular vehicle that was carbureted. I could only get it to duplicate the problem while driving. So, I wound up having an extremely trusted tech drive the car along at 25mph - 35mph with me hanging on under the hood making adjustments until I got it figured out.
Once you've done that, yeah....fuel injection is your best friend. Put it this way as well: there is a reason I sell cars with fuel injection for more money than the same car with a carburator: they are more desirable. And that's industry wide and auction wide as well.
Better MPG, better power, easier to use....what's not to like?

{black} Sadly that's not far off! We were on a deserted road though, and I was younger then. I can't say I'd do it again now, but I sure remember it like it was yesterday. Lol.
Oh definitely - one of the most important technological breakthroughs for the automobile in the last century.
