Hey so my grandpa is 70 years old and has a v6 camry xle from 2000. The car has 250000miles and he took proper care of the car. On Friday he took the car to Kwil kar and they told him his car needed

Torque motor mount $50

(Labor)R&R Torque motor mount $125

 Front motor mount $190

(Labor)R&R motor mount $125

 Rear motor mount bushing $53

(Labor)R&R rear motor mount bushing $125

Parts total $292

Labor total $562.50

Part tax $24

Total :$879

So any recommendations?

Also buying a new car at this age ...can you please help me out.

So I got my grandpa car fixed, has an old friend going back to Idaho to see his parents. I told him everything how kwik kar was charging him $900 for torque motor mount and front and rear engine mount.

He got them replaced for $300 and also replaced rear struts for $185. My grandpa also give him $200 for hard work also he was trying to deny it but he insisted.

So in shot he got his car fixed for $685.

I also told h check engine and transmission also for any codes. So for no issues

Gotta say those v6 on camry from 2001 are solid build and bullet proof

Total rip off.

It's not the worst quote I've ever seen, but I wouldn't trust Kwik to do it properly. I would take it to a dependable mechanic, or heck, you're an able bodied young man ... why don't you help the old guy out and do it yourself. It's not that difficult.

That is my plan but problem is
1 he lives far
2 pandemic
3 no flight till tickets except urgent which are hella expensive
4 I don't mind doing it
5 already planning to go there on December and getting him a new camry even if he disown me

where does he live?

Small town in Idaho

Was this at a Toyota dealer? I would assume some parts would be worn at a quarter of a million miles but not all of that. I would go for another car with that mileage alone- if your grandpa likes camrys- try and go for the a new one. I wouldn't buy used because some had oil burning ones or transmission issues.

Nope kwik kar is a local mechanic shop

I would replace the parts needed and then sell the car.

It is an old car plus with that many miles not a good investment mostly he will get is like $1000 to $1500
Also he is at age where buying a new car and paying loan for it ....really ?

I would go for used Camry then since you are on a budget.

That is the plan B.
As for now I cannot find plane tickets to fly there and driving is 2 days.
So as for now what he can do to make his car last at least for 5 more months I got plane ticket for Christmas and I am off from 15 december to 1st January enough time for me to buy him new car

Get a 2nd opinion.  Fix it and drive it.  Car prices are crazy right now.  If he got that many miles out of it, he took care of it.  Maybe he can get it to 300k then get another car.

Is the car actually showing symptoms of needing new engine mounts?

He doesn't feel anything but According to the mechanic the car has vibration and the seals are cut off . He called me when he got home so I didn't had the chance to call the mechanic. I tried calling them couple of times but no one answered

Well if they are the original mounts, there’s a good chance that there may be some vibrations. But if it really does need all new ones, that’s up or debate unless you can see the car & feel what’s going on, in person. If granddad hasn’t complained about the vibrations (odd for a 70yr old to not feel vibrations), ask him to wait to fix them and you can get a second opinion when you’re visiting him, later.

The shop I took my '07 ES350 to charged me $3K to replace all engine mounts and spark plugs.  They said the labor cost was high because they had to lift the engine/transmission assembly and that includes detaching CV shafts, hoses, wires and any other part that was in the way. Bad/worn mounts can alter the geometry/alignment of the shafts causing U joints to wear prematurely.
