Hi Scotty!
I live in Germany for a couple of years and I'm considering to buy a BMW 1 Series, used, 2018, 1.5 Turbocharged. I plan to keep it for as long as possible.
I expect the maintenance costs to be more reasonable than USA. What do you think?
It is true that BMW's are much better than in the US or other parts of the world but PLEASE do NOT buy a tiny 1.5l with a turbo. You're just asking for problems and that little engine will burn out before you hit 100k miles. Buy something with a V6 or a V8 anything but a tiny 1.5l turbo engine. Those kinda cars are just garbage. Scotty is not a fan of those at all.
If you are in germany, yes because bmw parts are everywhere and are cheaper
Agreed, the maintenance costs are reasonable. Try to get an independant bmw garage to work on it if needed instead of a dealer, the costs will even be reduced further.
Actually this engine is not as bad as we could think. It's part of a modular design so it's basically a b58 "cut in half" If you're planning on adding some more power on this engine and running it reliably, just don't go over 200-220 horses. If you keep it maintained correctly (oil changes every 15.000km instead of 25.000km), it should last quite a long time .
