Hello scotty how are you i just wanted to hear your opinion on the 2022 pathfinder because they ditched the cvt in favour of a ZF transmission which i know you like along with the bulletproof V6 what do you think although we should probably wait 5 years to see but it sounds good
Nissan quality is down the toilet for a long time. Joining Peugeot and Renault did not do any good to Nissan.
You already answered your question:
we should probably wait 5 years to see
They never joined with Peugeot, they were considering doing that alongside FCA but that fell through. Ghosn was also considering fully merging Renault and Nissan but Nissan execs were not happy with this idea plus the stuff he did around the time was damaging Nissan's rep and that's what caused the whole drama after Nov 2018.
I don't have high hopes for Nissan at all. They've been on a steady quality decline. Nobody knows what the new models will bring until they have been out and gotten some miles put on them, but a good transmission does not make a great car.
Time will tell.
“Good transmission?”
Nothing quite like a jerky transmission pulled out of a sub-$20k Fiat, known for failing before 100k miles.
The 9 speed transmission is terrible, and ZF has a long history of making a lot of weak transmissions, including some of the worst CVTs used by Ford and glitchy AMTs used by Lada.
Some of their transmissions are decent but most are not.
@dan I don’t know about that, the 8HP I would argue is one of the better transmissions put into vehicles these days. What they’ve done with other designs I have no idea but definitely got it right with the 8HP. And The 6R80 Ford uses has proven itself without a doubt.
@USAFdozerpilot
Yep, I agree that some of their transmissions are great. The dual clutch transmissions they made for Porsche and Bentley, and the old 5 speed autos from the 90s are all also good transmissions…
But plenty for their modern stuff is just terrible, their CVT transmissions were built so repairs would be impossible (and unlike Aisin, theirs were unreliable) , their AMT just can’t match PSA’s one; and the 9 speed is just too unreliable and jerky…
Nowadays ZF is building transmissions that are meant to fail.
There definitely seems to be a rise in quality over the last couple years there has been a few hiccups with some models being a complete redesign but as far as there common cvt concerns on previous model years what is being seen now is residual from older years even the cvt has not had many concerns since 2019? So three years with out issues I would say is a good sign
also, I believe a lot of the V6 CVT Nissans like the Maxima and V6 Altima don't have as many CVT problems as the 4 cylinder Nissans.
The v6 models even over the last ten years have not had the extent of issues in my opinion as the four cylinders
Maybe they are..

Z does it better…..
LOL
the new Z is leaps and bounds better looking than the Supra LOL.
