Hello, I'm looking at a 2016 Lexus NX 200t, AWD, turbo charged 2.0 Liter 4 cylinder engine with 51913 miles, with one previous owner. It is at a local dealer for $26,627. Would this vehicle be a decent purchase price? According to carfax (I assume it is correct) all the suggested service and maintance was done to the vehicle. I plan on driving it until the wheels fall off. I'd like to negotiate for a lower price but knowing that inventory isn't the greatest these days, I'd like to know what you think? Should I worry about the turbo?
Well it’s a good car, but.
The toyota 3AR engine is new and no one really has much experience with those units, so far quality is somewhat mixed.
I’ve herd that the timing system can make weird noises when the engine is cold and people claim that the water pumps could fail as early as 15-20k miles - but it seems like minor issues just related to how new the technology is.
Overall this engine could probably last over 120k miles, it ain’t no Camry or Corolla engine - it’s a rare new powerplant.
The 6 speed automatic is alright. They usually last over 150k assuming you take care of them and keep the oil clean. This one is from the Camry.
Overall for a turbocharged little engine compact suv? This is probably the best one you could buy.
if you change the transmission fluid every 40k miles and the engine oil every 5k-6k miles (to be on the safe side) it should be good for another 100k miles or even more 🙂
Thanks for the information!!!! We went and test drove it and it seems pretty solid. I did not make the purchase but after talking numbers, I was able to get them down to $25,000. My original offer was $24,200 before taxes, fees, ect. I'm really hesitant buying a vehicle with a turbocharged engine. After watching some of Scotty's videos, I know an engine with a turbocharger probably isn't a good idea. Anyway, thank you for the info. I appreciate it.
Scotty talked more about the garbage VW and mediocre built Fords.
The 3AR is one of the best turbocharged engines currently made, but personally I’d personally would get a non turbo bigger engine.
They are good SUVs, but the turbocharged engine isn't ideal for longevity. I would look into a non-turbo Lexus SUV from a couple years before with the 6 speed automatic. That way you might also save some more money.
Thank you for the reply and the links for additional information! We are definitely going to keep our eyes open for one of those. Like I mentioned previously, I'm pretty hesitant about the turbocharged engine and was hoping this wasn't going to be an issue with Lexus.
Lexus makes one of the best ones. Scotty said he never ever saw a turbo go out on those. But turbos are inconvenient in many ways when it comes to oil dilution or expensive maintenance... Shortly; Non-turbo prefered but of the turbo spectrum, Lexus (Toyota) is the best one by far.
I think you should be fine with a supercharger it's a Toyota it can handle it
