I am surprised that the owner gives the price very low. Check with a mechanic to see if it's in good shape. If it's in good condition, immediately buy it. I am pretty sure you asked the owner for engine type because the owner didn't put the engine type online.

I wouldn't even waste my time on a mechanic; I would just buy it cause it has such low miles anyway; I would just buy a live data scan tool and check the stuff myself if anything. He put the engine v6 under 'see all typical features'. I'm just looking; my parents don't want to spend much money on a car so hope he can go a little bit down on price.

A mechanic inspection is not a waste of time. It's well worth the money, and could end up saving you from a disaster.

@mountainmanjoe it is kind of hard relying on a mechanic to check every single used car you come buy; it is like $100 to check the car and then if you leave the car, you waste a $100.

no, you wouldn't do it with every car you consider. Just once you've decided on one.

A live data scan tool works too. It would be a good investment.

Why are you even looking at this? Your parents gave you a 5k budget and sure 7k 8k but 11k?? I'm pretty sure even its an amazing car your parent's will regret the purchase because of their original budget.

Now when it comes to being a good deal, the price is pretty good for the miles and condition. I've seen them listed as high as $17,500 (2012 RAV4 Limited). But its in the center of NYC that thing might have some pretty good amount of ware on it I'd stick to ones a bit out of the bustling city like idk Paterson or Long Island or the suburbs.

What about these?

To be clear the car is great and the listing price is also pretty decent for the market but for your price range I'd stick <$8000

The market for the 2012 RAV4 Limited V6 in your area is usually 12-14k

A mechanic/dealer level scan tool would be very useful. Scotty usually links them in his video descriptions.

If you can't find a RAV4, you might also want to consider a Venza V6.

Hmm, at least watch the videos above check under the hood bring a scan tool pay attention to the mechanical components during the test drive etc.
