Issues with buying low mileage older car, such as 2010 Lincoln Town Car

Hi Scotty,

I watch your videos daily.  Keep up the great work. I really like the Lincoln Town Car, and I am looking for a 2009-2011 with low miles.  When I was a kid in the 70s I was told that you can't buy an older car that an old person drove just a few thousand miles a year, then start driving it like a "normal" car 12-15K miles per year, which would include driving on the expressway up to 75 or 80 mph, etc.  Is that still the case with these Ford Panther cars?  I know you like these for longevity.  Currently looking at a 2010 with 80k miles.

Thanks,

Ted

Back in the 70'a, those cars with carburetors and points would carbon and gunk up if there were only driven short distances and/or seldom. Not so much a problem this century's cars.

But - all the rubber and plastic bits on the car, belts and hoses and tires and bushings and seals? They actually age faster/worse if the car sits all the time than if it is driven regularly, and the engine will benefit from getting up to temp regularly to drive the moisture out of the oil and internals.

Just make sure the engine sounds fine and the transmission is shifts good. Take it to a mechanic you trust and have them fully test it out, including scanning it.

What motor is in this car?

4.6 Liter V8

Scotty has mentioned those ford V8s are pretty reliable, though if its a triton i'd have it looked at. Everyone I have known or asked about that engine has had issues.

make sure you test drive it and have it inspected. I find Ford cars have terrible power steering and bad quality, uncomfortable seats.
