Jeep Liberty vs. Grand Cherokee

Scotty, I live in a small Colorado mountain town.  Getting from my property to the plowed county road can be challenging in the winter.  I understand from watching your videos that the quality of the newer Jeeps is not as good as the older Jeeps.    I am hoping that if I avoid the models and the years with the worst problems that I can find a reliable Jeep.  I am considering buying either a 2012 Jeep Liberty with the 3.7 L motor or a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 3.6L motor.  Which do you think is the better Jeep?  Thank you for your help!!!

The Grand Cherokee is better though still a Jeep product. The Liberty is essentially the entry level Jeep and built as such. Lots of issues with both, but of the two the Grand Cherokee has my bet.

Mod_Man, THANK YOU for your advice!  I think the Grand Cherokee is a better vehicle overall for me but I am concerned about all the problems on the Grand Cherokee I see reported on the internet.   The 2013 Grand Cherokee seems to have fewer problems even though many of them still have active recalls which need to be dealt with.  The 2016 also seems like a good possibility.  What do you think?  I was looking at the Liberty because it had fewer reported problems.  The Grand Cherokee would be a better vehicle for me if I can find a good one.  I am 72 years old.  Comfort and reliability are more important to me now than when I was younger.

Take a look at this site to get a more definitive idea of Jeep year/model reliability https://www.carcomplaints.com/Jeep/

In my experience, the Liberty has less space, but gets the same low mileage and awkward handling of the Grand Cherokee.

Glen_stet,

Thank you.  Which 4wd vehicles do you recommend?   I currently own a 2003 Yukon XL which I bought in 2007, and a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Station Wagon, which I bought in 1998.  Both have been great vehicles for me.  My Yukon XL has an 8.1 L engine and is great pulling my horse trailer but it is more vehicle than I need for going to the grocery store.  My Olds is a small station wagon, has a 3.0 L V-6, has good power, good fuel economy, and is easy to park so it has been a great run into town vehicle.  Now that I have moved from the Front Range to a small mountain town, getting from my property to the paved county road in the Olds has been a challenge in the winter.  I want to get a small 4WD for my everyday vehicle and save my Yukon XL to pull my horse trailer.

Get a Subaru if you really want a high end AWD system.

Aldo consider Toyota Highlander or 4runner too.
