2018 Jeep Wrangler with Many Problems

Dear Scotty,

My wife has a 2018 Wrangler JL, V6, auto, 50,000 miles.  It has given us these problems and I need your help:

1. Check Engine light with fault code P0850 'Park / Neutral Switch' with the message 'repair immediately if driveability issues'.  I reset the code after I read it (at an auto parts store with their scanner) and it has not come back - what to do on this one???  So far it has not come back, while ignorance can be bliss, the fault code implies I need to drop the pan and replace a sensor - really??

2. Remote start does not work: The key fobs would not start the car but there was a 'clicking coming from under the hood when attempting to start with the remote.  A week ago, I replaced the batteries in the key fobs with new Duracell batteries and they worked.  Now the remote start does not work again but there is a 'clicking' coming from under the hood.  Is this a relay in the fuse panel that is failing?  The pushbutton start in the car works fine.  Here in Wisconsin, the wife really, really wants the remote start for winter!  Do I need to replace the battery in the car?

3. We recently had a steering issue and I found that there was a TSB (TSB-08-092-18) to fix the issue.  The fix worked and the dealer charged me $54 for a software update!!  How did the steering just 'go bad' and a software upgrade was the fix??  What the heck?  How do I know this is not coming back later?

BTW, it is a typical Jeep as you have previously commented on-line: its all over the road, rides terrible, and is a great car for those that like to work on cars - because it is always broke down!!!

All these problems have come-to-life in the last 8 weeks.  Is there something else wrong with the car that is causing this or is there a guy at a giant switchboard at Stellantis that turns-off switches on cars when a warranty period expires and the car goes ka-flewie?

  1. Basically they are just made like crap and they often have electrical Gremlins. Now those remote starters are so complex it could be really could be a loose connection could be tons of things but start by having the battery load tested you may just need a new main battery for the vehicle. That's for the steering it has electronic power steering so software can fix electronic glitches. And knowing Jeeps that censor is probably starting to go bad but I wouldn't mess with it unless the code comes back

Feedback on battery:

1. Went to garage and tried remote start - did not work, car beeped and tried to turn over but could not.  Oddly, starts from using pushbutton start on the dash.

2. Put battery charger on battery, was drawing 15A for approx. 1 hour

3. Remote start worked

4. Determined battery was shot, bought new battery, remote worked yesterday.

I did not replace the Auxiliary Battery because it is cold outside and I am busy with other things right now (work, oh the horror!!).  I do not have a load tester and figured with the starting before/after the charger, that might be a good indicator.  Further, the battery is the original and I figured 3-4 yrs old could be in need of replacement, esp. with all the electronics.  I suppose when the weather is nicer, the Aux Battery will need replacing too, I assume it is just as old as the main battery!

Thank you for the help!
