Just purchased a 2021 Volvo V90 R-Series, customed, being shipped from Europe now, did I make wise decision?

Scotty, after owning many many used cars, finally bought a brand new car, so new when I purchased, it wasn't even out yet, last august. Is a customed Volvo V90 wagon, T5 2.0T FWD with all options checked. Only option I didn't opt for was the T6 AWD. Live in south florida, don't need an AWD vehicle. Is built and on its way from Europe, just waiting. Paid $62k when all was said and done. That was after an 8% discount because I bought the overseas delivery method. I get a free vacation next year. What do you think, wise choice?

It's not going to be anything like the old 240s when it comes to decades-long dependability, but I will say you chose the most sensible combination, i.e. 4 cylinder turbo, instead of the hugely complicated turbo+supercharger or the truly Rube Goldberg-like turbo+s/c+electric!

Every single manufacturer is pouring billions into research on just this combo (4cyl, often 2.0L + turbo) and other engines like V8s and above are basically being starved of funds, or being turned into super-expensive and super-rare exotic-like options as Porsche did with Panamera where the V8 appeared long after the new model was introduced and can easily reach 200K.

I will say Volvo's strategy of only having 4 cyl engines was vindicated recently by announcements from Mercedes that they too will be focusing on 4 cyl (inline-6 M256 will likely be the replacement for just about all non-AMG V8s; Toyota is also about to abandon V8 or keep it just for LC500 type rare rides). In Europe, it's quite possible that you'll be able to get an S-class or GLS with a 4 cylinder engine. That'll be a real game-changer perception-wise as lots remain snooty on the cylinder count issue, esp. in US. Another win is how closely the new S class interior follows some themes pioneered by Volvo, esp. the large touch-screen glass console.
