Keep Jaguar or not?

My 2019 Jaguar F-Pace lease has come to an end after four years, during which I drove approximately 41,000 miles. The dealership where I initially purchased the car is now giving me the opportunity to purchase it at a reduced price. I'm contemplating whether or not to take advantage of this offer. What would you advise? I really like the car.

You did the smart thing by leasing the Jaguar. Now do the smart thing and walk away at the end of your lease.

Its going to start crapping out on you in the next few years. They're not bad cars and can be fun to drive when new, but maintaining one is a different beast. Id recommend leasing a new one rather than buying this one.

I like Jaguars I like the way they drive, the way they look. Having said that I owned a V-8 S Type years ago and know they're expensive to maintain. I'm contemplating  buying a 5 year old Jaguar F-Pace, say around 2018. In the UK in 2017 they got SUV of the year award. The reliability reports don't look terrible, but there's a mix. Most people seem to get things fixed under warranty. I could go diesel and lots of MPG or 2 litre or maybe even 3 litre. What are your thoughts? Are these cars an improvement for Land Rover in terms of reliability, or will it be much the same as owning a 5 year old Range Rover and I'll be plagued with bills? I hope you've had the time to look at one of these. Thanks.

I'd actually say the late model ones are fine. I haven't had any problems with my car. There's a brand new Defender about a block away from my house and the owner has had 3 check engine lights so far. JLR fixed the problem. You don't need to worry. I had had a BMW X5 before the F-Pace and that car was anything but reliable. The turbo went at 3 years old. I wouldn't buy a BMW again. Now I am trying out a LR discovery and will be buying one.

Thanks for reply. When you say the late models are fine, how late? Are we talking 2017 - 2018 or later for reliability. The model only came out 2016. Interesting that you rate it more than the X5, another car I was looking at. I don't think I can afford a new F-Pace. I haven't looked into lease yet.

Yes, starting from 2016 approximately. I've had great luck with these.
Maybe you could try a pre-owned XE or XF. They're cheaper.

Ditch the offer and get something more dependable. It wouldn't be a great idea spending all of your money on to that car. Best recommendation I can give you for a better luxury vehicle is either a Lexus or an Acura.

Jaguars are not meant to keep vehicles for long term driving.
