Keep this car? Pius V 2013: $3500 to tighten steering column?

Topic starter

Is this car worth a $3500.00 repair shortly after $2230.25 to replace front end components, all to eliminate rattle noise that seemed to be coming from front driver's side. There was no vibration in the steering wheel associated with the noise.

Replacing front end components did eliminate most of the noise.

Dealer diagnosed remaining occasional rattle noise when going over uneven pavement to worn steering column components that need tightening.

Dealer reported car is safe to drive without service.

Details:

2013 Prius V
Mileage: 147991

Last service: REPLACED BOTH LOWER CONTROL ARMS ,LOWER BALL JOINTS , BOTH SWAY BAR LINKS AND PERFORM ALIGNMENT FOR VEHICLE.

Car purchased in September 2020 with 130000 miles.

My friend Rich Doty sings your praises for taking care of his VW in Houston when he was working for a graphic design firm.

Kiss the dealer goodbye and find an independent mechanic who won't rip you off.

Is there "slack" in your steering when you turn the wheel to go around corners? I'd get a second opinion before I'd do that $3500 job - your dealer sounds like they'll keep recommending replacing parts until you either go broke or trade that Prius in on a new one. There are a LOT of different things that can cause a rattle.

Dealer usually charges two, three, or even four times what an independent mechanic would charge.

As far as getting more work done, it depends how much an independent mechanic would charge.
