Kia Amanti 2006 leaking coolant

Hello Scotty, I have followed your YouTube posts for two years and have found them very helpful.  I live in Puerto Rico.  Here is my situation.  I have a 2006 Kia Amanti with the 3.5L V6 engine, with 84,500 miles.  To make the story short, the car overheated (due to crook mechanics at Kia Dealers), and now it's difficult to prove because the problems were caused about a year and a half ago, and the problem happened about three months.

We let the engine cool, and reconnected the coolant hose that disconnected from the radiator, and refilled the radiator.  At that time it seemed that everything was ok, no engine noises, but the car keeps slowly loosing coolant.  Like for three days there is no sign of leaks, but hey, one morning I noticed the coolant in the garage floor.  I refill it again.   We have decided to use the car for short trips only, within one mile.

The car is also leaking a bit of oil, when we asked another mechanic for diagnostic, I was told that it was not the crankcase seal, but another seal, located in an area “high” in the motor, that was very expensive to replace.  I opted to use the AT-205 Re-seal and that helps.

Last week we took the car for an oil change, the mechanic told us that the car is leaking coolant to the engine compartment, and he stated that the oil cap had residue that indicated that there was a coolant leak.  I am fed up and decided to get a new car, and give this one in trade-in.  I have seen many Stop leak coolant products, but I'm afraid that the contain silica and can cause harm in the motor.

I don't want to make a private sell and later have a problem with the buyer, so I'm going to take it to a dealer for trade in.  What products do you recommend that I can use to at least reduce the leak, so that when I take it for trade in, at least looks ok and is not leaking that much.  By law, dealers have to fix cars out of major problems and give a two to four months warranty on used cars.  Please consider that I live in an island and have not access to all products, and what I have close by is a Pep Boys and an Advanced Auto Parts available and Amazon takes two to three weeks (and I have Prime Service) to ship to Puerto Rico, and I would like to give this car in trade in before year end.

Thanks for your help, sorry if my English sound funny or things are not correctly expressed or verb tense is incorrect, it is my second language.

Cordially,

Roberto

Are you sure the water pump is not leaking? When you trade in anyways, they are going to give an overall look for obvious visible damage, take it for a test drive and then go right to recent auction data to give you a value. I would not sweat the details if your going to trade. They will probably wholesale it off anyways.

The water pump was changed last year, along with the timing chain. If it is leaking, I like something to stop the leaking for a while.
