Knocking diesel

Scotty, I have a 1991 Ford F-350 2WD, Extended Cab, dually, with a 7.3L naturally aspirated diesel V-8, with 473,830 miles. I replaced my injectors with Borg Warner injectors, and since, then, my engine, which was running on all 8 cylinders, has lost at least one cylinder, and has a loud knocking, I have yet to drop the oil, to see if there is any glitter in it, but I have heard that Ford Factory reman injectors are much better than Borg Warners, I'm womdering if I just got a set of bum injectors.

A very good question.  Not very knowledgeable about this engine but I know one thing, if I put new (something) no matter the mfg and it did this when the old (something) didn't do it, I'd be swapping the (something) back to the one I took out as the first troubleshooting step.

Did you purge all air out of lines and insure new injectors were/got properly primed?

Sorry I can answer your question about the injectors you purchased and hopefully someone will respond to that, but in general Borg W makes good stuff from my experience.

The only way I know of to bleed the fuel system on my engine, is to crank it. Only because it has absolutely no electronic pumps on it, bothe the lift pump, and the fuel injection pump are mechanical, and driven by the crank. I'm about to drop the oil, and pull the valve covers to see if there is any fatal damage, because it can't hurt. The main reason I was changing the injectors, was that the engine was becoming increasingly hard to start, and the only thing that made any sense, was that there was no fuel up in the injection system, and there are no leaks under the truck, or in the engine bay, of course, once it did start, it would run rough for a few seconds, and smooth out. I had gone through the rest of the fuel system, changing the water separator, lift pump, and worked on the injection pump. Each step made it a little better, but never got the truck to start the way it used to, so I was left with the injectors. I think I might try some factory reman Ford injectors, and see if that solves the issue, assuming that there is no glitter in the oil, or a dropped valve.

Good idea but I'd take them out one at a time and with them out (1 at a time) turn key on and observe the injector spray (into a glass bottle)
Basically this but before installed but not trying to crank/start, just on to toggle fuel pump and injector squirt.

GL and please keep us posted as it can help others.

sry, meant to say ya need to make adaptor but old injector and fuel line will make one pretty easily

Ok, news on my truck, everything points at the injectors, I need to replace the new Borg Warner Injectors with Ford factory remans, all 16 valves are in place, and there is no glitter in the oil this tells me I have bad injectors, well, here goes, once I can get the injectors in, I'll update ya'll. Sorry it took so long to get an update, but been stupid busy at work till now.
