I am very familiar with the scottykilmer doctrine of Land rovers. I'm wondering if they could be good vehicles if you did not care about all the electronic extras breaking down. I'm looking for a work vehicle that has a little bit more internal cabin space. If I don't care about half of the electronics breaking down could it be a decent knock around vehicle? Thank you!!!
Not really. They also have engine and transmission problems.
Put it to you this way: my wife's credit union offers extended warranties on every vehicle they finance with the exception of two brands: Land Rover and Jaguar. That's how unreliable they are. And, as an aside, I hate working on them when they come through my shop. Parts are expensive and things are located in places they shouldn't be, requiring removing more parts, etc. That is why repair costs are so high.
Well... Your idea is there, But unfortunately, Land Rover is owned by the Indian motor company tata, and partially owned by the Chinese. The car is not a very good car with the electronics aside. If you really have your mind set on a land rover, lease, or by a SUPER long warranty so when it breaks, it is not on your dime.
They can be good if all you want is a lawn ornament. However, if you actually want to drive it then it will drain your wallet in the blink of an eye.
Lease, not buy, JLR products, and always have under the original manufacturer’s warranty. Even if you remove a lot of the electronics, you will have a bunch still left to properly run the vehicle and the quality /reliability is still questionable.
Back in the day of English sports cars with bad electrics, the engine and transmission would still work while the electrics smoked away. You might not have headlights or wipers, but the car would make it home. Not current-era cars - functioning computers and electrical systems are essential to unlocking, starting, running, shifting and other conveniences.
