Im currently looking to buy my first car with a budget of 6000 and I’ve been looking at some older lexus sedans. I found a 2007 IS 250 with 140k miles for a little less than 5,000 at a dealership. This is my first time attempting to buy a vehicle so is there any tips on what to lookout for?
Just be aware of this safety issue and possibly having to replace front tires frequently:
Also parts are fairly expensive
I would research the cost of common OEM parts to replace for your specific model. Some common issues could involve EVAP system sensors, a/c compressor issues for older models, door actuator motors, motor on radiator fan, etc. ALWAYS have a mechanic familiar with Toyota products inspect the car before you buy it, even if it’s only $6,000. Ask to see the maintenance records and receipts for any work done on the car. If your model has an interference engine, replace the belt. Given the mileage, ask when the ATF and oil was last changed. If they’re not up to date, consider how this might affect the life of the car. If the car does have low profile tires, they are going to wear faster and riding in areas with potholes is a nightmare.
