looking for a new vehicle

I currently have a 2000 Isuzu trooper LS with the transmission that's going out. Thought about replacing the transmission but with the outdated interior, I'm in the market for any vehicle. I get car sick fairly easy and small cars so I tried to stick to you pickups usually but this "subcompact?" worked out pretty good.

What would you recommend to be a good replacement vehicle that has cruise control, good gas mileage is reliable. I'm leaning towards Toyota Tacoma but they're rare and expensive.

Clarification: truck only right?  If so, midsize or fullsize or?

I would go with either a Ford ranger or the Dodge Dakota.

But what year range. I had a 08 F-150 that turned out to be a freaking piece of crap.

2011 and older for the Ford ranger and Dakota. My dad has an 06 and he has no issues.

If it has to be a truck (and btw, trucks and “good gas mileage” don’t really go together) and a Toyota is too pricey or hard to find, then a reasonable alternative would be a Nissan Frontier.  See below on years to get:

Toyota Tacoma, rare. Uh, they're not rare at all. Hard to find any new ones in stock, that's a different story.
