Recently I bought a 2001 (Japanese)Toyota Corolla with 4AFE engine, the thing is that it has the 22 pin OBD1 connector and I want to buy a scanner that works with this car but can also work with newer cars. I saw adapters on sale but on the reviews some people say that the signal is incompatible with OBD2 scanners, etc. I'm new to this "scanners" thing so I don't know what to do.

Well you need a Japanese scanner then there's no way around that.which is one of the problems of buying imported cars that aren't sold here getting parts can also be a problem too
