I found a good looking 2016 4Runner TRD PRO at a local dealer and it’s decently priced (even though still a little high in my opinion), but the catch is that is 92000 miles. I know they’re pretty much bullet proof, and can go forever if taken care of, but just wondering if getting one with almost 100k miles is smart. Assuming it doesn’t have any major issues. Thanks!
Well it is a 5 year old vehicle so that is 18k miles a year. Again, they can last a really long time. First of all, if you are considering buying it, you would want to use the miles to bring down the price. Mechanical condition is very very important. You would want to have a mechanic check it out before purchase and do a in depth analysis of the vehicle with a scan tool etc. If they don't let you do that, walk away. Compare the price with one with lower miles and see if the price difference is worth it.
Thanks for the info! I've never taken a car to a mechanic that I was buying from a dealer - so far it's worked out ok. But I definitely see the benefits to doing it. Would I need to coordinate with the mechanic first? I'm just curious when the dealer would let me take it - like on the test drive? I don't even have a mechanic in the area of the dealership that I could take it to, as I'm about 2 hours away from the dealership.
It would be for a pre-purchase inspection about an hour or so and the dealer must let you do it or else walk away. A person from that may come with you etc. But just insist on having a mechanic checking it out.
Thanks - appreciate the info. And I was mistaken, it's a 2017 (I'm looking at a few). The Carfax looks clean, and it's a 1-owner. And the sales guy at the dealership said it shouldn't be a problem to have a mechanic check it out. So I think it might be alright. I bought a Ford F-150 a few years ago that had about the same mileage on it, and got 4 good years out of it. So a 4Runner should be ok lol.
I just noticed on the Carfax that the drive shaft was serviced - not sure what that means. I reached out to the dealership to see if they had anymore info on it, but haven't heard back yet. Might not wanna pull the trigger on this one. Thoughts?
Dealers service anything for money. Like I said, have a mechanic check it out as part of a pre-purchase inspection and make sure everything is in good shape. Good catch there;)
Gotcha - Thanks again!
As Kerem said take it to a mechanic and have it checked out thoroughly.
Thanks!
It sounds good. Take it to a mechanic to inspect it. Remember: If the dealer won't let you take it to a mechanic, leave the dealership.
Thanks!
Getting one with 100K is fine, as long as the mechanic thoroughly checks it out and says it is OK. Also, if there is a detailed service history and the vehicle looks like it’s had all its service done at the regular intervals, then I would not hesitate. I would be more nervous however if there is no history especially like regular oil changes. Just something to consider.
