Losing Powering & Gas Mileage

Hi, I have a 2007 Honda Accord EX 2.4L with V-Tech with a little under 160,000 miles on it. I noticed about a month ago that I needed to press on the accelerator a lot more to get the car moving. No check engine light is on and I don't have a tool to check codes so I haven't gotten to see if anything else is going on. So I started to track my gas mileage again and low-and-behold I am getting about 3-4 fewer miles to the gallon. I started with a fuel injector cleaner but that did not seem to help. I recently did an oil change so I also added in engine restore to see if that helps with the problem. It has been a few days and I know it can take a bit to work itself in, but I haven't noticed any improvements. One of my friends who is handier with cars noticed there was some oil residue at the end of my exhaust, so my next thought was to try and replace my PCV valve. I did mention it briefly to my mechanic while he was inspecting our other car and he thought it could be the catalytic converter on the fuel pump.

What do others think of this? Can this be fixed by replacing some parts (like the ones my mechanic suggested), or is my engine done for as I have feared?

Thanks!

It could be any number of things:

1. Fuel Filter

2. Spark Plugs

3. Fuel Pump

Have you had the valves adjusted? Hondas need a manual adjustment every 5 years/60k miles or so. If you haven't done that, I highly recommend it.

I replaced the spark plugs a little over a year ago, but I'll check those again to see if they have gone bad.

I have never had the valves adjusted. For having the valves adjusted would you recommend going to a Honda dealership for this or talk with my mechanic about it?

Thanks!

Your mechanic should be able to handle it. It isn't that hard.

When was the last time you changed the engine air filter?

Please take the vehicle to one of the major auto stores and get a free scan.  The codes will go a long way towards isolating and fixing the problem(s).
