Scotty, I know the Mazda 2.5 liter turbo engine is relatively new, but have there been any premature problems related to this high (13:1) compression engine ???

That motor has only been available for like 4 years so word is still out.  So far though there are no reported significant problems and I did research it last year

Well, the turbo variant of the 2.5L from Mazda is still too new to know exactly how reliable it is.

Mazda doesn’t have a good track record of turbocharging engines, when they turbo charged their amazing DuraTec the resulting 2.0T was the not good at all.

But, there aren’t many complaints on the new 2.5 Turbo and from what I know the 2.5L does consume small quantities of oil (typical for GDI engines),

they still seem to consistently last over 150k miles (when serviced well and driven moderately).

overall? I think that it’s the best small sporty engine currently in production. I’d take it any day over a SmartStream, tCe or EA888.

There is no gasoline  engine with a turbo on it that could be characterized as "reliable."  Diesels engines are the only exception. IMO.

I don't know, mine has been going for 25 years and over 360,000 miles, how reliable does it have be?

Chuck, you probably take care of your vehicles like I do, like a racoon with ACD.

Pretty much! Turbocharged engines love to be run with clean synthetic oil! Also, being old my turbocharged engine does not have GDI or other recent technologies that may shorten engine life.

All of the Volvo T5 family is turbo charged and reliable - ask Scotty or anyone and they’ll confirm that those are as reliable as it gets.
And there are plenty of other examples - it just requires quality engineering and quality contraction. Most modern auto makers use it just to cut corners on engineering.
