Should I buy a Toyota or Mazda

Scotty,

After watching your videos on the new-improved Mazda, I narrowed my search for a dependable and fuel efficient car to Toyota Camry and Mazda.  Skyactiv technology vs 2020 'Dynamic Force' engines.  The Toyota engine uses 8 fuel injectors, both GDI and Dual Port fuel delivery.

I am concerned that eventually the valves on a Skyactiv engine will foul with crud.  Toyota seems to solve this by coupling GDI with Dual Port in the same engine.  Basically using the Port injectors to clean the valves.

Scotty, would you choose a Camry over a Mazda engine for this simple technological difference?  Or should I cross my fingers with a Skyactiv engine?

Thanks in advance.

Go with the Camry.

The Camry has the best technology in terms of preventing carbon build up. Port and fuel injection is brilliant.

Skyactiv is amazing technology. Probably more efficient than a similar Toyota engine. But you hit the head in the nail, the biggest challenge is the direct injection.

Thank you Kaizen.

Buying a Honda Accord in 2015 was a simple no-brainer. All that I had to do was negotiate the price. Use premium oil, change it every 5-7 months, put in new shocks at 80k miles, put in new breaks and tires.

Now, cars are so expensive. I have more cash than I had in 2015. However, the options are daunting. I really don't like anything about GDI. I can't afford to make a mistake, I will need this vehicle to last 200K miles and be fuel efficient.

Camry with 40 MPG and that dual injector technology.

While I would love to drive that Mazda CX 5, it will have to remain a pipe dream. I am not sure I will have the cash to get it cleaned with walnut shells. This is nuts, in all ways in 2023.

Go Toyota Camry all day long.  In fact I am debating getting one (versus a Lexus ES).

Toyota Camry and Mazda

And the discontinued Mazda6?

Definitely the Camry, from the years without TCC issues.

Skyactiv technology vs 2020 'Dynamic Force' engines

SkyActive-G, on smaller cars - but on Camry/RAV4 DynamicForce is better.

Toyota seems to solve this by coupling GDI with Dual Port in the same engine

When Ford tried that the inaccessible result was carbon build up on the exhaust ports.

Or should I cross my fingers with a Skyactiv engine?

Or with the DirectShift gearbox? (Weak on the first model year of the new Camry)

Definitely the Camry 2020-newer or 2015-2017 especially 2.5L although the 3.5L is also great.
