I have a 2016 Toyota Tacoma with automatic transmission V6. I need to clean my battery terminals. Do I need to use a memory saver. I have watched Scotty’s videos and he recommends using one. I have also read articles about how harmful they can be. The say you can blow fuses and maybe even short out the computer. I need some good advice
If you have an extra battery, all you have to do is connect it to the pos and neg cables before you remove the bad battery and all your values will be saved
I do this using an old-school lead-acid jumper pack that keeps power active. (A lot of the new lithium-ion types shut down after a short period of time.)
I also have a "memory saver" gadget but one of my vehicles is computerized but pre-OBDII. Its cigarette lighter (another potential place to hook up to) is switched with the ignition, so I on that one I connect the jump starter to the positive battery terminal and chassis ground to keep vehicle memory alive.
It is a good idea to use a memory saver if you don't want to knock anything out and that's a Toyota just get one like I did on Amazon and connected to another 12 volt battery any size doesn't matter as long as it's 12 volts plug it into the OBD port and you won't lose your memory and it won't hurt anything on. Yes sometimes on cars like BMWs and Porsches that can do damage cuz they have really bizarre electrical systems but Toyota is not set up that way
Thanks Scotty
