Mercedes alarm goes off randomly

Hi Scotty, I gotta 2000 Mercedes SLK230 with about 166,000 miles. About a year ago during the summer I was having problems with the alarm going off randomly. Turns out the battery was old so I replaced it. The alarm didn’t go off since. So I assumed that fixed the problem.

Now about a week ago the alarm started to go off again randomly after parking and locking my car. It is currently summer again and I’m here in the Las Vegas area. I checked my battery voltage and it was good.

I did some research online and some say to check the if the PSE pump in the trunk is damp because it can cause the alarm to go off.

I could also pull the alarm fuse, but that will also take away my interior lights. I don’t really wanna do that.

Is it possible to just remove the batteries in the alarm itself?

Can really hot weather cause this to happen as this has only occurred in the summer?

The alarm doesn’t go off all the time. Several days can go by before it happens again.

What are your thoughts on this. Would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks.

The humidity is most likely causing it. Did you verify that the PSE pump is dry?

You can pull the horn relay for now till you figure out what can cause the alarm to go off.

Here's the thing that stupid alarm works by voltage loss in the car. So if somebody opens the door the light comes on and that turns the alarm off etc. Just realized any short in the system can make it go off randomly and that is a very complex electronic car. Good luck

Thanks for the help. This seems to only happen when the weather gets really hot. At least here where I am during the summertime it gets to be around over 105 to sometimes 120 degrees. I did some research and found out I can just pull the alarm connection from under the wiper. Its apparently not that hard to do. I'll just do that and call it day.

Also, I did verify that the pse pump had some water on the wiring. Not a lot, but it was not dry. I heard it is caused by either drain holes being clogged or sometimes when the convertible top moves, water gets into where the pump is located. I saw one guy online say he just gets a blow dryer and blows the pump for a few minutes, apparently it worked for him.

This problem does not happen too often. Sometimes weeks will go by and the car acts normal.
