Scotty, I just got my grandfathers 2005 Mercedes C240, 4 Matic. Has 30000 miles on it. Never driven in winters. What tune ups would you reccomend to make it an every day driver?

can you use Regular gas?

I like the small V6 engine bug-eyed C240's, but when it needs anything, take it to a Mercedes dealer. They have the (very expensive) equipment necessary to diagnose issues and the personnel to properly make the repair.

Driveway and small shop mechanics frequently cause more problems than they have the capability to fix.

Been there, done that ...

This is good advice. It may be more expensive, but if you aren't careful, you can easily wind up paying for bad repairs and then going to the dealer anyway. My shop services Mercedes, but we also service Ferrari and Lamborghini. We have some tools that cost me absolutely eye-watering amounts of money. But we advertise that we service those brands and we warranty our work. Most of your smaller shops who do not service these brands on a daily basis are not going to splurge for the right equipment or the right trained technicians. And I have fixed some repairs botched in ways you would not believe. It usually costs more as we have to undo the bad repair before actually fixing the problem.

That vehicle requires premium fuel. Using a lesser grade may cause engine knock and damage the motor.

@mod_man
it's 2005 so wouldn't the computer retard the timing to prevent knock?

It should, but I have seen some that still knock if cheap gas is used. If you use a good brand like Shell but go regular, you may not get knock but you will get reduced performance. The computer can and will adjust the Octane tables as best it can, but it can only go so far one way or another before it throws a code. On a Mercedes, usually their tolerances are TIGHT and knock presents itself.
